Buying a Double Buggy 3 Wheels
This versatile buggy can be used as a single or double. It comes with 17 different configurations to accommodate children from infants to toddlers and even a third when using iCandy’s 'piggyback' board. It's also one of the slimmest double strollers and fits through doors like a single pushchair.
This is a compact and light stroller that folds easily with one hand. It's also excellent on a variety of terrain and has an excellent shopping basket.
Adaptability
There are many things to take into consideration when purchasing a double stroller. You'll want to ensure your children are comfortable, safe and happy as you explore new routes and sights. You should also consider the cost and size, weight and the durability. Choosing a well-known brand (within your budget obviously) will maximize the resale value as well as speed up the purchase later on.
There are two types of double buggies with three wheels, based on how many children you'll be carrying: side-by-side and front-facing. The side-by-side buggies tend to be slimmer but have a bigger footprint than the front-facing models. However there are some smart models on the market which manage to keep their dimensions down such as the Mountain Buggy Duet. It is the tiniest buggy on the market. It even fits through narrow doors.
Tandem buggies are generally larger. They typically start as a single pushchair but can be rearranged to take a second seat or carrycot with adapters. Some tandem buggies can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and a baby or a child and a newborn due to their innovative seating arrangements. One example is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 which can be converted into a triple with the addition of the optional 'Piggy Back' board.
The iCandy Orange is another super-smart tandem buggy with a unique 'cinema seating' design that allows the rear seat to be adjusted to different positions so you can alter the way your children are seated. It offers a choice of 30 seating configurations and is ideal for parents with young children at different stages of development.
The phil&teds sports is a good alternative. This world-first, multi award winner buggy will protect your pocket by starting as a fantastic single from day dot and then adjusting to take two (or three!) As your family grows, you can still use the same footprint of a single buggy. 3 wheel pushchair is possible thanks to the innovative sling seat that's ideal for babies and offers greater maneuverability, stability, and kerb pop.
Manoeuvrability
In general, double buggys with 3 wheels are easier to maneuver and control than double pushchairs that have 4 wheels. The front wheels are smaller and less broad and result in being lighter in weight. They are able to be moved more easily and are also easier to maneuver up and down kerbs.
A great example of this is the Mountain Buggy Duet. It is the thinnest side-byside buggy on the market, and has the same footprint as one buggy. It is ideal for parents who are worried about fitting into doors or on public transport. In addition, the fact it can also accommodate twins or two car seats/car carrycots means it can be used right from birth.
UPPAbaby Vista 2 is another alternative. It's a fantastic, lightweight buggy that's ideal for urban life, but also comfortable on rough or uneven terrain. It can be used by twins as well as a baby and toddler because of its four-wheel suspension and large rear wheels. Its light frame means it can be lifted and carried easily too. The only drawback is that it's a bit more difficult to maneuver on uneven ground than other models.
Comfort
If you plan to use your buggy on long walks or for jogging, it's worth investing in a model that can be able to handle rough terrain. Look out for a 3-wheel model with large rear wheels to take the bumps, plus a suspension system that absorbs shocks. Ideally, the front wheels should be anchored to provide more control on tricky terrain and make it easier to push around corners.
A good double buggy can allow you to alter the seating positions to ensure both children are able to sit comfortably. The best double buggys have adjustable footrests as well as reclining seats for older children. They'll also have plenty of storage space for your shopping, car keys, and phone.
Another thing to look for is a slick fold mechanism. Our Lab experts prefer models with straps under the seats to take the buggy apart, or a lever that opens a catch that folds the frame within a matter of a few minutes. Some models can be folded with the seat removed to make them smaller when not in use.
The Mountain Buggy Duet is an award-winning side-by-side which offers great flexibility for twins or siblings. Its clever frame can be expanded to accommodate the second seat or carrycot, while still having the same footprint as a single stroller. This means it can fit through doors and on public transportation. It's heavier than other models but its smooth and comfortable ride makes up for it.
iCandy's Orange Convertible is another popular side-by-side model that has 30 seating configurations to suit every need. It's an excellent choice for twins, as the seats can be positioned to face the parents and can be converted into the tandem pushchair.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a lightweight 3-wheel option is ideal for daily use. It's not as big or expensive as other models, however its fixed front wheel and a small turning radius make it difficult to move up and down kerbs. It's simple to push and can be used for running buggy by including a separate child carrier.
Safety
The phil&teds sports can accommodate 2 children in many ways from toddler to infant with their car seat adapters or twin kit, and even handle 3 if you use their piggyback board (which is available separately for around PS120). It is especially safe due to its dual front swivels that are swivels at the front, maneuverability, and the an easy footbrake. Additionally, the tray that it sits on is much larger than other double buggies that are lightweight and the canopy has windows that can be opened to allow for better visibility.
This multi-award winning side-by-side is the tiniest fully-featured all-terrain double vehicle on the market. It has the same dimensions as a single buggy, so it is able to be easily pushed through doors and taken on public transport. Its remarkable suspension can tackle tough terrain like a pro and our Lab experts are enthused that it folds down to a compact resting position in a second or two. It also has a hand brake that is mounted on the adjustable handlebar for additional security. The seats can be reversed to allow children facing forward or parents facing each other ideal for siblings and twins.
